Computer software form a very important part of a computer system that is responsible for excellent working of a computer system. Computer software is basically a registration process that allows the other hard wares connected to the computer to work efficiently. Unlike the computer hardware, computer software is completely a virtual concept. It is a tool with which the performance of a computer can be enhanced and it also serves various other purposes of the use of computer and helps it to be used in several other forms. These forms includes gaming computers, data storage computers etc. Widely there are two main categories of computer software namely the system software and the application software.

System Software – system software is a collection of software that is responsible to install all the hardware connected to a computer system. The type of system software depends on the hardware attached to a computer system and it is completely on the user’s wish to connect as many hardware connected to it. System software includes software such as audio software, printer software, video software, LAN software etc. This software makes the operation of the connected software and hence provides and interface through which a user can use the hardware attached efficiently. System software also helps to connect various computers among each other.

Application Software – Application software is an interface through which user has freedom to customize according to the use and requirement. Application software can be of various types that serve various purposes right from writing and editing a document to paint through the use of computer. It can also be used to create and edit music, videos etc. The application software today finds various uses. It can be designed to enter a data that collects the information of a survey, can be customized for use in a shop to keep a track of all the sales taking place.

These 2 categories of computer software include popular software such as Microsoft office, adobe reader, audio players, video players etc. Computer software forms essential part of a good computer system. These also help in creation of websites, graphics etc. Software is designed on the basis of the requirement of the user and can be designed depending on the customizing features a user wants to put in.

Although pirated software are available as application as well as system software it is always preferable to use original version of the software that is legal since it provides all the features that are present unlikely that of a pirated version.
